St. Maarten – Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams will be holding a special ‘zumba Goes Blue’ session in front of the Government Administration building today to support and promote World Diabetes Day which was observed on Wednesday. The prime minister emphasized that a healthy lifestyle, especially staying active, is of utmost importance for diabetics or those at risk for the disease. “It has been proven that aerobic exercises such as zumba can lower your risk for diabetes. Exercise also has positive benefits for those who have diabetes: it can lower blood sugar levels, improve insulin sensitivity, and strengthen the heart. I therefore encourage everyone and not only Civil Servants, to join in on this very special zumba Session,” the prime minister said.

Today’s zumba session will have a strict blue dress code in solidarity for those suffering diabetes and commemorating International Diabetes Day. The event is a part of the prime minister’s U 2 Can Move health initiative which has featured weekly zumba, ecological hikes, historic walks and numerous walkathons.
