Youth Parliament organize Art, Poetry & Essay Competition

GREAT BAY – The St. Maarten Youth Parliament will in commemoration of the Rights of the Child, organize with an Art, Poetry & Essay Competition. This competition is open to students of any elementary and secondary school. The contest is divided into four categories: the Art Contest for Grades 1-3, Poetry Contest for Grades 4-5, Essay Contest for Grade 6 and an Essay Contest for Secondary School students. The competition is based on the theme, “My Country St. Maarten.”

The young artists will draw or paint a picture illustrated life as a child growing up on St. Maarten. The poets will write an English poem, on the theme, with a maximum of twenty lines. The Grade Six essay should be no more than 300 words, while the Secondary School Essay should be 500 words.

Each entry will receive a certificate of participation. Entries (essay or poems) may be emailed to sxmyouthcouncil@hotmail.com or delivered to the office of the St Maarten Youth Council Association at the Rupert I Maynard Youth Community Center.

Deadline for submission is Monday November 19. Prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants in each category. A special exhibition will be held on Friday November 30 at 7 p.m., to showcase the work produced by the participants, and present the awards. The exhibition and prize giving ceremony will take place at the Rupert I Maynard Youth Community Center.
