St. Maarten – The second Youth 2 Extreme (Y2X) CC-GLU ZAMAR 2011 kicked off on Thursday evening 20 October at the Philipsburg Community and Cultural Center. The event for singers, musicians, dancers, mimes, writers, choir members, praise and worship teams and radio dj’s runs through Sunday with workshops and concerts.

The visiting artists for the event were welcomed by the Y2X organizing committee with a fun meet and greet evening at the Philipsburg Cultural and Community Centre Wednesday evening. The first series of workshop sessions followed on Thursday evening. Joshua Ferrel led the workshop on ministry through worship; Pastor Edwin Arrindell looked at Guarding Your Ministry: Understanding and Adapting to the Lifestyle of a Minister of the Gospel and Koen Duncan led the workshop on The Character vs. The Reputation of the Artiste.

There were also workshop sessions on Friday and more are planned for this morning. There will also be a concert under the theme Element of Praise. The concert features Koen Duncan, AZ1 from Anguilla and other dynamic local artists and begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Philipsburg Cultural and Community Centre. A percentage of the proceeds of Sunday concert will go towards the Positive Foundation Breast Cancer Awareness.

Tiffany Graham and Monique Graham – students of the American University of the Caribbean –assist with tonight’s concert as part of the school’s community action day. Tickets for the concert are available from Nature’s Discount in Simpson Bay and Philipsburg, Victorious Living Foundation (158B, Backstreet) and members of the Y2X organizing team.

The weekend workshop and concert is one of several activities Youth 2 Extreme – the youth arm of the Victorious Living Foundation – is using as part of its revitalization. The revitalization began in March with activities like the Y2X    Fresh Flex, the Y2X Power breakfast, continuation of the group’s radio show Fresh on YR 92.5 f.m. There is also an ongoing recruitment drive.
