CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS – Officials in Nevis has praised Winair for its safety record and called for it to continue offering faithful, reliable and punctual service. The compliment and admonition were delivered during a ceremony to mark the airline’s 50th anniversary. Nevis and St. Barths were the last two stops on the airline’s anniversary tour.
“The fact that the airline has survived the test of time, the uncertainty of passenger traffic numbers, administrative changes and challenges and modifications in schedules and the destinations is a testament to the resilience of the airline and its core staff. I challenge you to continue being the faithful bridge between St. Maarten and Nevis,” manager of the Vance Amory International Airport Stephen Hanley said.
Chief Executive Officer of Nevis Tourism Authority John Hanley added, “Winair has been providing a high quality of convenience to the locals and tourist alike, with direct connection to St. Maarten for shopping of for onward connections to North, South and Latin America and Europe.”
Hanley also praises the airline for its on-time performance, reliability and safety record even though it is able to fly into the smallest airports in the region. He called on the airline’s management to improve service and asked that they find ways to offer passengers lower airfares as to stimulate travel demand. There was also a call for the airline to be a better corporate citizen by partnering with social and humanitarian causes in the destinations it services.
Premier of Nevis Joseph Parry also wants “some reduction in the airfares” but is conscious that the airline has no control over fluctuating oil prices. He also congratulated WINAIR for their exemplary service to the region and called for the continued support and relationship.
A comment the Nevisian Premier made comparing Winair with Liat drew a swift reply from Winair’s Managing Director Edwin Hodge. Hodge said that Liat could never compare with Winair even though both have a strong safety record.
