St. Maarten – The new board of Windward Islands Airways International (Winair) will be officially appointed at a special Shareholders Meeting at the offices of Lexwell Attorneys on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. One of three new members will not be at the meeting because he is on vacation. The meeting will be chaired by St. Maarten’s Shareholder Representative Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams.
The three new board members are businessman George Greaux Jr., financial consultant Robert Budike and veteran airline executive Gerrit Draai. All three were nominated to function based on the recommendation of the Ad-hoc Committee that was appointed by the prime minister in October, 2010 and have expressed joy that the airline’s management “will have the backing and support of a team of professional persons on the Supervisory Board.”
“The Ad-Hoc Committee looks forward to a positive and productive meeting and takes this opportunity to thank and at the same time congratulate the three new members for accepting these Board Responsibilities in these, what could be considered trying, but not insurmountable times for the airline,” committee chairman Michael Ferrier wrote in a statement.
The new board will also meet the staff and union – Windward Islands Civil Servants Union/Private Sector Union (WICSU/PSU) – at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the airline’s hangar.
