St. Maarten – The section of Welfare Road from Daily Extra Supermarket will become a two way road again starting at 9:00 a.m on Monday when the Waterfront Road is closed to through traffic. Wrigley Road and other side streets near Waterfront Road will remain accessible especially to residents of the area.
“The revised traffic situation means that people will be able to continue straight down towards the airport. The Welfare Road will be a two way street again,” Head of New Works Kurt Ruan said.
The works on Waterfront Road will be done by Windward Roads at a cost of 1.3 million guilders. The project includes constructing drains, installing sewage lines, building sidewalks, placing utility cables underground and installing street lights. The project is funded by Usona and falls under the Socio-Economic Initiative (Sei).
The work is expected to take two months and will cover 200 meters of road. The Control Unit will be on hand, as requested, if traffic becomes backed up.
