Pink, Phit and Phabulous walkathon

St. Maarten – At the conclusion of the Pink, Phit and Phabulous walkathon from Divico in Colebay to the Festival Village on Pond Island, the 600 plus participants were reminded why they were there as activities to celebrate Breast Cancer awareness entered its second week.
The annual event which was organized by the Positive Foundation in collaboration with the ‘Elektralytes’ attracted people from all walks of life and while it was predominantly attended by woman, a few men were there to show their support for those that are affected.
“We have made it, we are the true winners, we have walked for the women that are living with breast cancer, for those that have passed on,” said Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams when she addressed the huge gathering in the Festival Village yesterday.
It’s safe to say that some of the participants have never walked so far before and they could not wait to enter the village and have something to munch on. But their presence was what was more important as the Prime Minister explained.
“To the women who could not be here, we have walked for all of them and you were with us in spirit, we have worn pink and we are phit and phabulous,” the Prime Minister said. But no one else in the gathering could have been more satisfied that the President of the Positive Foundation, Shelly Alphonso.
After thanking the participants, Alphonso echoed the sentiments of the Prime Minister when she told them to remember why they were there. “ It’s not only about the month of October, but all year long we must do our breast test examination.”
To help unwind from the journey, some of the participants still had enough energy left to participate in the Zumba session which was intense as usual.
