Wanted: Hunt for Chucky continues

POSTED: 08/4/11 3:04 PM

St. Maarten– The hunt for the escaped prisoner Omar Nelson, aka Chucky, is still on. Last week police thought they spotted the young criminal, but it turned out to be a false alarm. In June the Court in First Instance sentenced Nelson to 18 years imprisonment, among others for his role in a robbery that resulted in the death of Dutchman Wouter-Jan Romeijn.

Nelson escaped on March 19 from the Pointe Blanche prison. Today it is 138 day ago that he escaped. The National Detective Agency (landsrecherche) has conducted an investigation into the escape, but this investigation is not complete as long as Chucky has not been heard.

Chief prosecutor Mr. Hans Mos said that Nelson is the key figure in this investigation. “He will have to tell us whether he did this on his own, or that it happened in a different way. He will have to make a statement as the suspect in this escape but also as a witness.”

Mos declined to reveal what the investigation has brought to light so far.
