Voting cards for St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce election ready for pick up

GREAT BAY – Voting cards for the St. Maarten of Commerce and Industry’s election on December 2 are no available at the Chamber’s office. Eligible voters must present the voting card and valid photo identification when they vote on Election Day.

The voters for the large business positions are those whose names appear in the registry with a company whose minimum capital investment 100, 000 guilders. People with minimum capital investment below 100, 000 guilders are small businesses.

Business people who are residents or Dutch citizens and inscribed in the register as  owner, partner, manager, deputy manager, managing director, supervisory director, general attorney or proxy holders (with no limitations) one year prior to the election are entitled to vote. People who are in prison, have been place in a ward because of insanity or who have been adjudged as bankrupt cannot vote in the election.

In order to be eligible candidates have had to prove they are residents of the Dutch side for at least two years, had attained the age of 18 on August 15, 2011, have no incompatibilities (more persons in the same business) and are not excluded from eligibility. Each board member that is elected will serve a three year term, with one third of the board resigning or vacating their position. People filling temporary vacancies must also step down by rotation through voluntary resignation or dismissal by law.
