Voters register closes next week – Wednesday DP urges voters: check registration

St. Maarten – As the June 11 deadline for the closure of the voting register rapidly approaches, the Democratic Party issued a press release urging eligible voters to double check at the Census Office whether their names are included in this register.

“The DP would like to encourage all Dutch Nationality citizens and residents of St Maarten to participate as robustly as possible in the upcoming elections. Democracies function best when its citizens participate fully in the electoral process,” DP’s public relations officer Michael Ferrier stated in a press release.

The DP points out that, once the register closes on June 11 – next week Wednesday – voters will have to go to court to have their name included. “The DP recommends that all citizens that intend to participate in the upcoming elections verify that indeed they are registered at the Census office on the Soualiga Road on Pond Island and with their correct address in order to ensure that their voter card arrives in time.”

The press release furthermore advises voters to call the census office to check their status via phone number 542 24 57, or to send an email to burgerzakensxm@sintmaartengov.org.

A visit to the Census Office is also possible: in Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 to 10 a.m. (without appointment), on the same days from 10 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. (with appointment), or on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 12 noon with appointment.
