St. Maarten – The Vocational Education (VE) team of the Division for Educational Innovations (DERPI) held an information session at the Sister Marie Laurence primary school on Wednesday evening to inform parents of grade six students of the available possibilities children have after they have completed elementary school.

The main presentation was given by Saskia Kliphuis of the SBO Service Center. She provided information on what vocational education studies/courses are available and the school fees for the four main PSVE schools; MPC, St. Maarten Vocational Training School, St. Maarten Academy PSVE and Sundial school. According to a statement the assembled parents were happy to receive the information as it will help them in discussions with their children on career choices. The students who attended did not pose many questions but they did listen attentively and nod their heads to signal they understood and were following the discussions.

Wednesday’s presentation is part of the year long promotional campaign on vocational education, which is being funded by Usona. People can also get direct information by contacting the SBO Service Center on 543-0498 or 543-0497, sending an email to vocationaledu@gmail.com, visiting the website: www.sxmve.com, liking the Facebook page: “VocationalEducation VE” or following the Twitter account: “VocationalEdu”.
