Minister calls on citizens to update vaccinations

St. Maarten – This Saturday there is a vaccination campaign at the festival village, organized by the Ministry of Public Health Social Development & Labor’s section youth health care in cooperation with health care providers. Vaccination Day begins at nine in the morning and concludes at four in the afternoon.

“All those that plan on travelling during the summer can have their vaccinations updated by getting the necessary vaccination requirements, I am looking forward to seeing you there, so please come out as it will also be a great family day,” Public Health Minister Cornelius De Weever stated in a press release issued yesterday.

The ministry encourages people to come out and have their children vaccinated free of charge. There will be lots of other stakeholders/vendors on hand to provide visitors with information.

“It will be a fun filled day and emphasized on the theme, which is “For You! For Me! For everyone! Get vaccinated Get checked,” Anita Priest of the section youth health care stated

The aim of this event is to maintain and upgrade the islands vaccination program, and also for those up to 17 years of age to catch-up with their vaccinations. The type of vaccinations that will be administered are for diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis; pertussis, hemophylis influenza B,. hepatitis B, measles, mumps and rubella (for children 1 year of age). Older children will get the hepatitis B vaccination, measles, mumps and rubella, and DT-IPV (Diphtheria, tetanus and polio).

Information will be given on vaccinations; updating of cards, and the section would like to see all the old cards get to their rightful owners. People who are missing their vaccination card, should stop by the section’s booth to see if it is there. the section advises parents to bring their child’s vaccination records no matter what country they are from, and the section staff  will check and advice or update accordingly. There will be lots of activities for the kids and some surprises; everything is free of charge for the children. There will also be handouts for parents.
