St. Maarten – A cash injection of $30.000.00 dollars and a donation of three Blackberry smart phones is just one way United Telecommunications Services (UTS) has reiterated their commitment to the St Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF). The cheque was handed to the SCDF President Stuart Johnson and Treasurer Erno Labega. They accepted with warm smiles and pleased hearts from UTS Service Market Manager Michanou Arrundell yesterday.

As a corporate sponsor, one of Chippie’s objectives is to support foundations, events, groups and various ventures on St Maarten.

“Every day we as a company, as citizens and as individuals look around and think about how we can help. As with any endeavor taken on by UTS, we found ourselves thinking just that once again this year,” Arrundell said.

“UTS and SCDF coming together proves that companies can join in the effort in promoting and ensuring carnivals survival and to continue to promote and develop St Maarten’s main cultural product,” Johnson said.

The donation will be used to offset expenses SCDF will incur during the Carnival season including decorations in Philipsburg and its environs. As one of the main telecommunication service providers on St Maarten, Chippie has already extended a similar courtesy to the carnival activities on the French side of the island.

“We have already pledged and succeeded in assisting with the revival of French side carnival last month. Now its time to bring the spirit and energy to the Dutch side of the island,” Arrundell pointed out.

Chippie will also capitalize on the opportunities to promote and sell products during Carnival by running a booth in the Festival Village (#81) that will offer “out of the box promotions that have been capturing huge attention.” There will also be give aways to lucky customers.

Johnson described the relationship between UTS and the SCDF as healthy, long and vibrant and urged other businesses on the island to follow UTS’ example.
