DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – This week United People’s (UP) party leader and Member of Parliament (MP) Theo Heyliger met with President of the Dominican Republic Danilo Medina with the intention of strengthening relations between both countries, according to news site soualiganewsday.com.
The Dominican Republic is well aware of Sint Maarten’s strategic geographic location in the North Eastern Caribbean which would allow the country to become a distribution hub for the surrounding islands with respect to products and produce.
The meeting between MP Heyliger and President Medina took place at the Presidential Palace. Both agreed that conditions are ripe to increase business between the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean islands.
“We share the same geography, it’s time to make up for lost time and capitalize on the opportunities that this can offer. President Danilo Medina is absolutely right when he states that Dominican Republic is able to supply the Caribbean. We are here to take concrete steps,” MP Heyliger said.
In a meeting with the press, MP Theo Heyliger said that there is great interest from Sint Maarten to develop business ties with the Dominican Republic. “Economic ties between the two countries can seriously contribute to the sustainable development of both economies,” he emphasized.
He concluded, “Dominicans are our brothers. If we are here, it is because we believe we can consolidate this brotherhood, making trade among us will contribute on the development of our wealth and welfare of all. The time to work together has begun,” MP Heyliger said.
