CRIPPLE GATE – The first annual St Martin Trails unity walkathon enjoyed a rather large turn out last week.
Approximately 250 walkers made the 10 km trek from the Festival Village in Philipsburg to the Home and Tools parking lot in Bellevue, where a Caribbean breakfast of bush tea, saltfish, Johnny cakes and eggs awaited.
The Saint Martin Trails association gave out eleven donated prizes “raffle style” as soon as the last walker arrived at Bellevue.

The association thanks the volunteers from the Maternité Active Association, Sint Maarten Road Runners and the St. Maarten Red Cross for their invaluable assistance.
In a press release issued yesterday, the association also thanked everybody who bought tickets and made contributions. ”The proceeds from go to making the existing trails more passable and well marked on both French and Dutch sides of the island for the enjoyment of everyone.”

Pictures of the event are available at the association’s Facebook page : sxmtrails.
