Unity Walk-a-ton on November 13POSTED: 10/31/11 12:30 PM
MARIGOT– St. Martin Trails hosts its first Annual Unity Walk-a-ton on November 13 under the theme United for our Environment. The club hikes trails on both sides of the island every Sunday morning and feels that there is a need on both sides to maintain the trails and protect the environment. Thus the idea for a unity Walk-a-ton was born.
The Walk-a-ton will start at the entrance of the Festival Village in Philipsburg and end at the parking lot next to Home and Tools in Bellevue, with a twist at the end. The walk goes off road just across from the entrance of Port the Plaisance! There will be a small hike at the end of this walk where participants can discover one of the trails of the island.
Proceeds from this walk will go to maintaining and the marking of the trails for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.
“We have a wealth of beauty and nature left on this island, just waiting to be explored. Very often we encounter people who would like to discover the trails but not necessarily early on a Sunday morning,” the club’s Public Relations Officer Gisele Jermin said.
Tickets are $10/10Euros and include a t-shirt and breakfast. Tickets can be purchased from members of St. Martin Trails and from Blue Point Gas Station, General Tire Center, Change Caraibes and Grillades Antillaise on the waterfront for the French side as well as Tri-Sports and Napa Auto parts (Cole Bay and Illidge Road locations) on the Dutch side. Walkers will have the opportunity to win prizes ‘raffle style’ at the end of the walk.
