Union surveys teachers about vacation allowance

POSTED: 11/23/12 1:09 PM

GREAT BAY – Teachers at 23 schools received a resolution from the Windward Islands Teachers Union Witu that details plans to push for an increase in the vacation allowance from 6 to 8 percent. Teachers are asked to return the document with their comments. The union will then present a final version at a membership meeting in January, and this will be forwarded to what the union calls “elected officials.”
Teachers in the Dutch Caribbean received an 8 percent vacation allowance, but in St. Maarten this benefit is 6 percent.
Recognition for years of service is a second issue the union seeks comment on from the teachers. The union is seeking recognition for 10, 20, 30, and 40 years of service with an accompanying bonus.
