St. Maarten – President of the Windward Islands Teachers Union (Witu) Claire Elshot has distanced herself from allegations that there are pedophile teachers at the St. Maarten Academy P.S.V.E. The charge was made by Hector Ramos – a parent with children at the school. Elshot was copied on the man’s letter to the media last week and she’s now distanced herself from it until an investigation is concluded.

“I don’t know the individual and in my opinion he is not giving the board their rights to conduct and analyze the information of what is going on in an objective manner. I will not be discussing any allegations made against any member of the Witu without the facts of the matter,” Elshot states in her e-mail.

Later she’d add, “I don’t know anything about this as yet and have also requested from this gentleman that he remove me from his mailing list since I consider it is his right as parent, but he must respect people.”
