Union hosts occupational safety workshop

St. Maarten – The Windward Islands Civil Servants Union/Public Sector Union, WICSU/PSU hosts an Occupational Safety and Health workshop on November 24 and November 25 at Carl and Son’s Unique Inn & Conference Facilities. The training will be given by instructors from the by Dr. Anthony Rocheford, a Licensed and Authorized Course Provider for the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (ISOH) and targets fifty (50) employees, managerial staff and other personnel.

The workshop will cover the internationally accepted concepts and skills in Occupational Safety and Health and challenge participants to assume roles in contributing to safer workplaces throughout St Maarten. It will include segments on Workplace Hazards Control, Risk Assessment and Management, and the role of Collective Bargaining in Promoting Occupational Safety and Health. Participants will also become familiar with the ILO’s Decent Work Agenda, and with its Occupational Safety and Health Convention #155 and accompanying Recommendation # 200.
The trainer – Dr. Rocheford – has holds degrees in Public Administration and in Risk Assessment and Safety Technology. He has at least 25 years experience in the field of safety and health and has earned a number of certificates from regional and extra-regional institutions in the field of occupational safety and health, in addition to training and experience in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management.

The workshop is being funded by ILO Caribbean and donations by local businesses to the union’s education fund.
