Union dissatisfied with mediator Holiday

St. Maarten – Government mediator Derrick Holiday is frustrating attempts by the United Federation of the Windward Antilles (Ufa) to meet with him about a date for a union-referendum at Trimerit NV, the company that operates as Diamond Casino. A meeting on October 4 did not go through and for a new meeting scheduled for last week Tuesday (October 16) Holiday failed to show up. At least, this is what the Ufa claims in a letter addressed to Labor Affairs Minister Cornelius de Weever.

The union, led by Rignaldo Haize, calls Holiday’s absence “a blatant disrespect of the Ufa and a disregard of our time,” adding that “it looks as if the mediator has something against the Ufa because actions speak louder than words.”
The union asks the minister to appoint an extraordinary mediator “to restore tranquility at Diamond Casino.” It says that the referendum at the company is long overdue and that employees are getting frustrated about it.
The Ufa furthermore says that negotiations are deadlocked at Divi Little Bay Resort, Marshall Motors, Carl and Sons, the Westin and the Atrium Resort.
“We are strongly of the opinion that the mediator does not want to handle these problems and we are hereby requesting an extraordinary mediator to solve these pending deadlocks,” the union wrote. It says that it has lost all confidence in Holiday.
