St. Maarten – Alick Elrose Marcelle and Jofelder Rafael Emmanuel have something to think about after the Court in First Instance sentenced them to 24 and 22 months of imprisonment respectively. Of each sentence 6 months are suspended; the court imposed 2 years of probation.
Marcelle, 26, and Emmanuel, 18, robbed a 66-year-old woman on the L.B. Scott Road of her heirloom golden necklace on October 23 of last year.
Emmanuel was also found guilty of threatening to rape a 15-year-old school girl a day before the robbery.

On the morning of October 23, the two defendants were driving down L.B. Scott Road when they spotted an elderly lady. Emmanuel got out of the car, walked up to her, said politely good morning and then ripped a gold necklace from the victim’s neck.
The victim told the police she had received the necklace thirty years earlier from her mother. She recognized the 18-year-old as the robber in a photo confrontation.
Marcelle, the driver of the car, was also found guilty of firearm possession. The court acquitted Emmanuel of this charge because there is no evidence that he knew Marcelle had a weapon in his car.
