Two killed and one injured in late morning shooting

St. Maarten – Two men died – E.L. and K.L. – and one woman were injured in an early morning drive by shooting on the A. Th. Illidge Road. Roughly six shots were fired during the shooting spree in front of Cat’s Guest House that began around 10:30 a.m.
Eye witnesses say that at least one of the deceased men had just arrived in a car that is metallic blue Toyota Corolla and parked in front of Phat Divas Haven. People on the scene said E.L died immediately after being shot, but K.L. was still alive when police and ambulance personnel took him to the hospital. He was pronounced dead later in the afternoon. The woman, who has not been identified, was also taken to hospital as she’d been shot in the leg.
“At first I thought it was a blown out tire, but then the sound kept on and then I realized it was gunshots. It looked like they were followed, because it was not long after they parked that the shots were fired,” said one eyewitness who did not want to be identified.

Police and eyewitnesses have not been able to state conclusively who was shot first.
Wednesday morning’s shooting led to police closing part of the A. Th. Illidge Road. It was still closed when schools let out and in some instances students walk through the cordoned off area to get home, after school busses and other traffic were diverted away from the area. The scene was not short of on lookers though as people lined up behind the police cordon to watch as the bodies were removed and as police gathered their evidence.
