St. Maarten – Bodybuilders and fitness athletes from the various gyms on this side of the island will have an opportunity to make a name for themselves when the St Maarten Bodybuilding & Fitness Association stages its annual championships on September 14 at the Philipsburg Cultural Center.
Among the participants who are expected to stand out are those that competed in the championship that took place on the French side a few months ago. According to Martin Wilson, President of the SMBB&FA, the local gyms will not be competing against each other. Instead it will be an open affair in the respective weight categories.
In addition to the men’s and women’s bodybuilding, body fitness and bikini division, the association will encourage participation at the junior level with the first youth fitness competition as an added attraction.
Plans are also on stream for a delegation to travel to Puerto Rico to participate in the 40th central American and Caribbean Championships from September 20 to 22. That delegation will be finalized at the conclusion of the local championships where more than egos will be at stage.
“In our efforts to raise funds for both events, we will have a Family Fit and Fun Day this upcoming Sunday at Great Bay Beach starting at 11am until the fun stops. There will be a program of fun activities for kids and adults. There will also be a series of bodybuilding activities that the crowd will also be able to participate in,” Wilson said.
