Tunnel proposal making headway

St. Maarten – A preliminary report on the development of tunnels as part of the comprehensive road network plan has already been drafted and several international firms have signaled their interests in constructing the structures.
Deputy Prime Minister William Marlin provided highlights of the report on Wednesday, but still maintains that no decision has yet been taken on whether government will proceed with the construction of between one to three tunnels to appease traffic congestion and complement the causeway.
“We have received information from a company in Austria that is interested, a company in China and two companies in Brazil are also interested,” Marlin disclosed.
Tolls that will be charged by project partners will pay the costs of the tunnel project, the government had indicated during its governing program launch.
