Tropical storm Erin poses no threat

St. Maarten – Tropical storm Erin, the fifth storm of the hurricane season, does not pose a threat to St. Maarten.

The department of disaster management will monitor the progress of Erin which was formed yesterday morning in the Atlantic Ocean several and is 1000 miles from the Eastern Caribbean island chain.

Yesterday the storm was tracking West North West at 14mph.  Maximum wind speeds at that time were 40mph.

The office of disaster management reiterates to the country that they should have already completed preparations for the 2013 season; for those who have yet to make preparations such as putting together a family plan on where you would ride out a storm in case your home is vulnerable (wind, flooding, storm surge); to have a disaster supply kit ready containing items that you will need during the season.
