St. Maarten – Finance Minister Hiro Shigemoto has called last week Thursday’s meeting between the Council of Ministers and the President of the Central Bank of Curacao and St. Maarten (CBCS) Emsley Tromp very informative. The meeting focused on the social economic impact of dollarization, dissolution of the monetary union between Curacao and St. Maarten, blueprint for the Central Bank of St. Maarten, supervision of the financial sector in St. Maarten and the Development Bank of St. Maarten.

“The CoM had asked the CBCS several months ago to do some research into a number of areas of strategic economic importance that we needed additional information.  We are very pleased with the information received as this will assist with decision-making,” Minister of Finance Hon. Hiro Shigemoto said on Tuesday.

Tromp also made a presentation to the St Maarten General Pension Fund and insurance agencies about investing and hosted a dinner to commemorate the upcoming 184th anniversary of the Central Bank during his visit last week.
