Today’s Editorial: A quiet Carnival

There were a couple of skirmishes, the prosecutor’s office reported, and one man was held when he attempted to enter the carnival village with a knife in his pocket.

Other than that, Carnival was a breeze for law enforcement. That is worth a compliment for all those who took part in the celebrations, but it probably is also the fruit of a very stringent police policy.

Disturbing the peace during Carnival has one simple punishment: in the lock up until the party is over. That prospect apparently does not appeal to otherwise rowdy youngsters.

So while we commend everybody for good behavior, we think there are enough reasons to keep the zero tolerance policy in place.
