St. Maarten – One officer from Checkmate Security remains traumatized and the owners of Helena Jewelry on Front Street are yet to account for their losses after a robbery that took place around 11.15 am yesterday.
At least three men all armed and wearing masks committed the robbery. While one man stood guard outside the store, the other two men used a smash a grab technique to accumulate an undisclosed amount of jewelry.
However before entering the store, the officer from Checkmate Security who was responsible for guarding the premises was quietly ushered into the doorway of the adjoining store and instructed not to move, along with the staff inside that store.
Realizing what was happening, two other security officers at nearby stores were quick to react by pressing their emergency buttons, a subsequent call was also made to the police station but by the time the officers arrived arrived on the scene, the three men had already made a swift escape on a scooter along the Boardwalk.
A scooter that was parked in the nearby alley was the mode of transportation for the three men who rode away with guns pointing into the air. The matter is currently under investigation by the detective department.
The suspects are still at large, though their movements were captured on nearby cameras.
