St. Maarten – On May 1 three St. Maarten students were the first to ever graduate from North Carolina Wesleyan College, in the USA, with the St. Maarten flag raised at the commencement ceremonies.

The graduating students are Gene Kemble and the brothers Jason and Jaine Lindo; Jaine graduated Magna Cum Laude. Their presence at NC Wesleyan College began with university soccer scouts selecting the three students in a Barbados training match in 2006, supervised by their coach David Forsythe, and then resulting soccer scholarships offered for Gene and Jaine from Wesleyan College. Thanks to additional St. Maarten government student loan support, and financial assistance from their families, Glen and Glaryh Kemble and Ilene Haviser, all three St. Maarteners graduated with Bachelors Degrees in Sport Science (Gene and Jason) and Business (Jaine). Gene will go on for further studies in the Netherlands, Jaine will go on for his Master’s Degree in the USA, and Jason will be coming back to St. Maarten with the intention to work with sports education in the schools.
