St. Maarten – As one of the many whose duty is to serve and protect, Samantha Theodore demonstrated that she can also entertain a huge audience when she out performed 10 other participants to win the 2012 Police Song Festival last Saturday at the Sonesta Maho Convention Center.

The event which was organized  and hosted by the Police Sports Association was the last in a series of events which started 10 days ago and it involved officers from Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, the BES Islands, the Netherlands, Suriname and St Maarten.

However, with the exception of Bonaire and the Netherlands who had already left the island, it was a vocal battle between Arlie Kerindongo from the BES Islands, Leonard Roaslies from Curacao, Sue-Jean Dania from Aruba, Rudsel Offerman from Curacao, George York from St Maarten, Marlon Calmes from Curacao, Samantha Theodore from St Maarten, Algier Haile from Curacao, Rumini Rogers from St Maarten, Rashad Soliano from the Coast Guard and Monique Giddings from Suriname.

Doing a song entitled, ‘I Look To You’ Theodore who was also the winner in the pre song festival held a few weeks ago was the first participant to use backup singers on stage. But even after six good performances by those that appeared before her, she was able to rise to the occasion and secured 430 points in the end.

Finishing in the second and third spots were two officers from Curacao. Haile’s rendition of ‘Suddenly’ made popular by Billy Ocean was one of the best performances of the evening and the audience loved him very much.

The third runner up, Rosales’s rendition of a tune entitled ‘Sorry’ by Tracy Chapman was the second person on stage and he went on to set the bar after a grand entrance and creative stage performance.

Based on the set criteria for the evening, the participants were judged among other things on melody, lyrics, presentation, clarity, body language, use of props, stage presence, creativity and use of stage just to name a few. Not even the rain could have affected the huge attendance that certainly got their money’s worth.
