St. Maarten – The rum that American couple Mike and Thelma King invested in before their brutal murder last September in Cupecoy hit store shelves in the United States last week. The slain couple had invested heavily in a rum factory here on the island with restaurateur Herbert Anthony Daboul, aka Topper.
The rum has been named after the King’s business partner. It’s called Topper’s Rum and is attractively packaged. The product has been for sale in St. Maarten already for some time.
Charleston, South Carolina news network WCSC Live 5 News reported on the development yesterday, adding that the rum is now available in the King’s hometown of Mount Pleasant as well. The network said that when reached for comment, Daboul deferred to the King family, who said they plan on issuing a statement on the case next week.

28-year-old Meyshane J., 20-year-old Jamal Jefferson W. and 17-year-old Jeremiah M. remain in custody accused of the King murders.
They will appear in court this morning for a pro forma hearing. Their trial has been pushed back until March or possibly later.
