The Musicologists on stage for Regatta

St. Maarten – The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines musicology as “the study of music as a branch of knowledge or field of research as a distinct from composition or performance”. That’s a lot of words and also the inspiration for the new all-star band that drummer Fred York has put together for the upcoming St. Maarten Heineken Regatta.

Late in 2012, York was asked by the Heineken team to take care of all live music for the Thursday’s opening night of the 33rd St. Maarten Heineken Regatta and he humbly accepted. York was just in the process of launching his new business venture called Musicology, where the perfect bonds between the music community and those requiring musical services will be forged.

That’s where “The Musicologists” come into play (pun intended). The Musicologists will be a five piece band handpicked for this event. The band will consist of musicians who are well established on the music scene and come from different backgrounds/bands.

On bass guitar will be Cornelious Romou, besides being the bassist for “House Appliances” and “Church on Monday”, Romou has played bass for many other artists. Jose Vulbeaux is one of the two keyboardists for this event. He’s plays with the French pop band “Next Level” and with “Latin Sugar”, just to mention and that in itself shows how diversified he is musically.

The other keyboardist is Adrian Scott, a guy on the contemporary gospel scene. Almost all of the latest hits on the gospel charts and all of the major gospel concerts here on the island have seen an active Scott as the producer, keyboardist or music director.

However, the guitarist for this show will be a huge surprise. (Hint), he grew up on the island and moved to the United States where he’s performed and recorded with many pop, hip hop and R&B greats and it’s a great pleasure that have him on board.

The last member of the band is York, he is the drummer and musical director for The Musicologists. York is the founding member of “Mosaic” and is currently the drummer of “One White Chic” (voted Best Local Band 2012). But he’s no stranger to the live music scene be it Funk, Reggae, Soca, Jazz, Rock, he has done it all.

This band will be using a combination of naturally gifted musicianship along with technology to produce a show that will make jaws drop. Along with some of the hottest talents on the island both young and not so young. The Musicologists will have the attending audience on their feet from the first to last note.

The addition of this St. Maarten all-star band to the already exciting lineup featuring the legendary band “The Commodores”, Dutch House DJ Duo Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano, Orange Grove, Patrick Graham and many more will ensure the 33rd St Maarten Heineken Regatta is prepared to provide some “Serious Fun”!

All the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta parties are free and open to the public. Food and drinks are available each night. For over three decades, the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta has showcased the top boats and sailing in the Caribbean, and has become equally famous for its world-class slate of parties and musical entertainment. Now recognized by sailors around the planet as one of the sailing world’s best regattas, each year the event lives up to its worthy motto: Serious Fun.
