GREAT BAY – Police arrested an 18-year-old suspect of armed robbery at his home on Monday evening. The suspect, T.D.W. was allegedly involved in a robbery at the Sunshine supermarket on the Genip Road twenty minutes prior to his arrest. Supermarket owner Q.H. told police that a man dressed in black and armed with a handgun stormed into the store with his face covered. He threatened to use his weapon if the victim did not cooperate. The robber took all the money from the cash register and fled the scene.

The supermarket owner and a witness chased the robber through the neighborhood and alerted the police in the meantime. The chase led the police to a home in the Retreat Estate. Officers surrounded the place and then searched it. They found the suspect, the clothing he had been wearing during the robbery and the cash he took from the till. W. confessed his crime to the officers. He was taken to the police station in Philipsburg for further questioning.

The police reported yesterday that the suspect’s arrest was possible due to the fact that residents in the St. Peters area who had seen what happened had alerted them and provided officers with information that led to the arrest.
