St. Maarten – Performing artists and politicians joined the family of the late Gregory Anthony van Gurp, aka Mighty Gregg, aka Tongue Man on Friday at the Festival Village for the late artist and bus driver’s send off. The 49-year-old was found dead in front of his home on Monday and was interred at the Cul de Sac Cemetery after Friday’s open air service.

Sympathizers cued up in long lines to say their farewells and to offer their condolences to his mother – Eugenie van Gurp -, his sister – Glenda van Gurp –, his brothers and other close relatives. The list of sympathizers included Deputy Prime Minister Theodore Heyliger, Leader of the National Alliance William Marlin, President of the Democratic Party Michael Ferrier and Member of Parliament Frans Richardson. Snoopy’s fellow calypsonians also turned out in numbers to say farewell. Tributes were rapid fire because of the long list of people who signed up to give one. The current Road March King – Isidore “Mighty Dow” York – was among those paying tribute. He used his skill to make people laugh in the midst of their mourning.
