St. Maarten – The government still has not reacted to a letter dated January 12 from the Windward Islands Chamber of Labor Unions Wiclu about a change in the scheduled days off around the French-side carnival.

Currently those days of have been pencilled in as February 13 and 14, but the Wiclu has asked to move these days up one week to February 20 and 21.

“These days off were always scheduled for after the Grand Parade,” Wiclu first vice president Claire Elshot said yesterday. “But now this is not the case, now they will have days off before the parade. If this does not change you can expect teachers-absenteeism to be very high.”

The grand Parade in Marigot is scheduled for Monday February 20.
