Taste of Orient tomorrowPOSTED: 09/28/12 12:30 PM
St. Maarten – For the first time, the Chinese community will open its mid-Autumn celebrations to the public with “The Taste of the Orient” street fest. The event will be held tomorrow on C.M Vlaun Street in front of Chippie Café and Bubble Tea. It is organized by the St. Maarten Chinese Community Foundation (SMCCF) who has asked that everyone on the island join in the celebration with them.
This festival will showcase oriental culture to the public from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm. It is also a time for “reunion” which advocates family harmony and cohesion.
“The SMCCF wishes to send this message out to the public and hope that the local communities on the island will be part of this meaningful event. There will be cultural performances, entertainment for youths and various types of oriental food vendors. We are also offering Thai, Vietnam and Surinamese cuisines to the public,” foundation member Raymond Yu told the Today.
Radio personality Elektra of Philipsburg Broadcasting will play host for the event.
“Samples of Moon Cake with green tea will also be available for everyone to try. Please bring your family and friends to enjoy this great one of a kind cultural celebration. Expect to have lots of fun playing games and savoring a variety of oriental cuisines,” SMCCF president Steven Huang.
