St. Maarten – Tamarind Hotel has risen to the top position over 12 other St. Maarten hotels listed on www.tripadvisor.com. The property has been steadily climbing in the rankings since November of last year when it was number 9 on the list. Some months later (in April) the resort has now reached the top position. The other four resorts in the top five are Belair Beach Hotel, Holland House Beach Hotel, Divi Little Bay Beach Resort and Passangrahan Royal Guesthouse.
Tamarind has been under new management, led by Paul Ingram as Managing Director, since March 2011. That leadership made it a priority to improve the property, which was rated 12th at the time of the takeover. In November 2011 they hit the number 9 position and then moved to being number 7 in February. March saw successive jumps as the resort moved from being sixth on March 8, to being fifth on March 22 and second on March 28. The final leap to number on was confirmed on April 15.

According to a mass e-mail Ingram sent out, congratulatory messages have poured in from around the world because of the new ranking. Tim from Scotland wrote, “Just checked your rating on trip advisor and it says you are NUMBER 1. Congratulations on your hard work, a justly deserved result” in one such e-mail.
A review of the comments at www.tripadvisor.com shows the customer satisfaction with the resort. Just under half (7) of the sixteen current reviews say the property is excellent, while five said it was good, two said is poor and one vote apiece said the resort was average or terrible.
The most recent review of the property which was posted by Keith on March 21 states, “I stayed in the Tamarind Hotel for 6 weeks. It’s a nice and cozy hotel, great for relaxing and enjoying the sun by the pool. The service was great and the rooms are cleaned properly. The ladies at the front desk were very friendly and helpful as well as the rest of the staff. An excellent hotel if you want to have a great vacation.”

A day earlier (March 20) Moxiee wrote, “The Tamarind is under new management, which has resulted in many improvements. The grounds are improved with lots of new plants, trees and flowers. There is a handyman who lives on-site and responds to requests for any problems immediately. He works full-time. The apartments have been up-dated with new furniture where needed. The apartments are clean and well equipped, the staff friendly, the pool lovely. The prices are very reasonable. You are not on the beach so you really need to rent a car to get around the island.”
The room tips still contain a warning about the rooster farm that’s not far from the hotel, but the new windows have led to a reduction in the noise.
