St. Martin News – The non-profit association Caribbean Sail Training will repeat the successful Tall Ships Day it hosted last Thursday during the Commodore Cup in the Heineken Regatta next year on Thursday March 2.
Several Sail Training Vessels and Tall Ships have already indicated their intention to participate in the next event.
This year’s Tall Ships Day attracted four CST member Tall Ships and Sail Training Vessels, the Dutch ship Wylde Swan, the Polish Fryderyck Chopin, Mercedes and Eldorado sailing together from Great Bay past Simpson Bay towards the direction of Anguilla.
Youngsters and teachers of St. Maarten’s St. Dominic High School took part in the “Maritime Experience Day” on board the Wylde Swan while the Polish vessel had about 35 young trainees on board who departed right after the day to sail via the Azores to Europe.
The sailing was coordinated by the vessel Mercedes who had mainly cruise ship guests on board as well as Eldorado.
Caribbean Sail Training will have space for many youngsters and school kids available next year as several other sail training vessels and tall ships have already showed interest to sail along in the next edition of the Tall Ships Day.
Every year more and more CST member vessels are visiting the Caribbean while doing sail training in the tropical waters.
All the Caribbean Sail Training member vessels take Caribbean youngsters as trainees on board for one or more weeks with all costs covered by the ships and the CST association.
About sixty vessels are actual members of Caribbean Sail Training.
