SZV calls pensioners in to collect

POSTED: 10/11/11 1:28 PM

St. Maarten – The 127 pensioners who typically collect their pensions at the post office in Philipsburg will be able to collect their pension at the main of the Social and Health Insurance (SZV) from today. People will be able to collect their money from the cashiers between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for the entire week.
“We apologize sincerely for any inconvenience, especially since we understand that our pensioners live on a fixed income and not being able to collect their money on time put them under increased burden,” SZV’s Chief Operations Officer Reginald Willemsberg said
The payments are being made there because of the continued strike action by the postal service employees. The SZV had been previously assured by New Post Netherlands Antilles that the payments would be made, but they have yet to make the payments.

The 127 pensioners who will go to the SZV had to wait longer than their counterparts who got their pensions from the banks one or two days later. The reason for that delay is “some slight problems” when the SZV processed the payroll that was formally administered by the SVB Netherlands Antilles for the first time.
“Typically we should have paid by the 1st of the month and we were not aware we would have this large problem, but there were some issues that we were not prepared to handle,” Willemsberg said.
“This is a good reason why people should have accounts at the bank. We should pay on time, but that will make things easier for you to pick up because through the years Post Office has consistently paid a few days later,” Willemsberg said as he also announced that SZV will “revisit its contract with New Post Netherlands Antilles.”
