SZV begins paying St. Maarten pensioners in Holland next year

St. Maarten – The Social and Sickness Insurances St. Maarten (SZV) will begin paying out pensions to St. Maarten residents living in the Netherlands as of January 2012. The decision on this was communicated to Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor Cornelius de Weever by Minister Plenipotentiary Mathias Voges on Tuesday, when de Weever visited St. Maarten House in The Hague.

The decision for SZV to take over the payments was made during a consultation between Voges and Executive Director of the SZV Dennis Richardson after SVB Curacao sent pensioners a letter telling them that they would only pay for the years the person lived on Curacao and St. Maarten would have to pay for the years they lived and worked here. People then called St. Maarten House to enquire about this issue, especially since the SVB Curacao only transferred their share at the last payment.

De Weever also met the staff of the Cabinet of the Minister Plenipotentiary and the Vice Minister Plenipotentiary Hon. Richard Panneflek and received a tour of the office.
