St. Maarten – The Court in First Instance sentenced 21-year-old Elvis Emmanuel Junior Flanders to an 8-month suspended prison sentence with 2 years of probation and 80 hours of community service for his involvement in a burglary that took place on July 3, 2011. Flanders was caught read handed with a laptop that belonged to the burglary-victim.

Prosecutor Tineke Kamps demanded a 6-month conditional sentence with 2 years of probation and 90 hours of community service.

Another suspect who was involved in the same crime was sentenced to a 6-month suspended sentence with 2 years of probation and 200 hours of community service back in January of last year.

Judge Tamara Tijhuis considered this punishment very low and she added 2 months to the prison term, though she limited the community service to 80 hours.
