Suspect in Atlantis Casino robbery arrested

St. Maarten —One of the suspects in the armed robbery at Atlantis Casino was arrested by police yesterday after he caught the attention of police after he was spotted riding a dirt bike without license plates.

The suspect was spotted in Cole Bay and was arrested at approximately 11.00 a.m.  by a police patrol from the Simpson Bay area. The patrol also recognized the rider as one of the suspects of an armed robbery at Atlantis Casino which took place on November 16th of last year and for whom an arrest warrant was issued.

“When the suspect with initials K.D. noticed that the police was following him he took off at high speed through the streets of Cole Bay and Cay bay. The Central Police Dispatch was informed of what was taking place and sent several other patrols to assist. When the suspect noticed that he could not go further with the motorcycle he jumped off leaving it behind and continued fleeing from the police on foot.

“The suspect was apprehended shortly after while hiding behind a home in the Cay Bay.  He was arrested on the spot and taken to the Philipsburg Police Station where he remains for further investigation. The motorcycle was also confiscated for further investigation,” police spokesman Inspector Ricardo Henson explained.
