St. Maarten – The Court in First Instance moved the trial of 30-year old Robertson Craig P., a suspect in amongst other the May 26, 2009 murder of businessman Haresh Dayalani, to November 20. The court has reserved a whole day for the trial that will begin at 9 a.m.
The suspect was already in court on May 23; the court postponed the case then because the investigations were not completed yet. P. is not only a suspect in the Dayalani-murder, he is also a suspect in two armed robberies at the pelican Marina Resort on May 13 and May 14 of 2009. On both occasions he managed to escape arrest.
In May prosecutor Hans Mos revealed that a toothbrush found at the suspect’s home linked him to the Dayalani murder; DNA from the toothbrush matched DNA found in Dayalani’s car.
The US virgin Islands extradited P. to St. Maarten where he has been detained since March 25.
P. has denied his involvement in the murder.
Yesterday prosecutor Mr. Tineke Kamps said that she had just received new DNA-reports, and that she had had to wait a long time for the police reports about the robberies in Pelican.
