St. Martin Book fair opens Thursday at Belair Community Center

St. Maarten – The organization of the tenth annual St. Martin book fair has released its official program. It begins on Thursday evening at eight o’clock with the opening ceremony at the Belair Community Center. Keynote speaker for this event is economist Dr. Norman Girvan, a professor at the University of the West Indies.
On Friday evening there will be poetry and fiction readings by local and foreign poets and authors at the Yacht Club Restaurant at the Fort Louis Marina in Marigot, with a jazz interlude by Bobo Claxton.
On Saturday morning eight o’clock the main book fair opens at the University of St. Martin on Pond Island. The fair closes at four in the afternoon. Admission is free; there are book signings, workshops and sessions for all ages.
At two o’clock George Lamming introduces insights into the life and times of Dr. Walter Rodney during the Presidents Forum in room 202.
In the evening, starting at eight o’clock there is the official launch of Emilio Jorge Rodriguez’s book Haiti and Trans-Caribbean Literary Identity/ Haití y la transcaribenidad literaria, followed by the closing ceremony.
