POSTED: 03/7/13 8:50 PM

Romeo PantophletGREAT BAY- St. Maarten is maintaining its position not to grant Holland access to run a fiber optic cable through its territory for connectivity with St. Eustatius and Saba. Telecommunications Minister Romeo Pantophlet yesterday confirmed that on February 26 he issued a response to RCN denying it request to land the cable here. Pantophlet’s response was in keeping with the Court of First Instance ruling for the country to respond.
The government has maintained that any cable landing here should be based on a mutually beneficial condition and also protects the interests of TelEm.
