St. Maarten – Justice Minister Roland Duncan swore in 12 new prison guards on April 11, 2011 at a ceremony in his office on the A. Th. Illidge road. The 12 new officers will be stationed at the Pointe Blanche Prison.

Duncan and the prison’s Director Rudsel Ricardo congratulated all the officers on their achievement and welcomed them to the force. The Minister admonished the officers that despite all looming difficulties and inevitable hardships, they are expected to give their best to this job as the safety of the rest of society depends on it.

“Sticking to the rules at all times and always remaining familiar and up to date with the rules, is also a strict requirement to carry out their tasks successfully,” Duncan said in a statement.

The prison director also expressed his gratitude for having the new officers join the team and admonished them to continue in the spirit of hard-work, because their services are much needed.

Also present at the ceremony was the prison’s Personnel Officer Amparo Sabina, the Coordinator of Education Norwin Reenis and his assistant Mr. Anselmo Boasman. Colleagues, relatives and friends of the officers and members of the minister’s cabinet also attended the ceremony.
