POSTED: 10/3/11 8:11 PM

St. Maarten – Members of Parliament will resume a public plenary session today that they began last Tuesday on adjustments to the Civil Code. Seven new items have been added to the agenda for today’s meeting. This meeting is open to the public and will be carried live on St. Maarten Cable TV Channel 20.

Before they adjourned on September 27 MPs had approved the list of incoming documents and passed new laws on paternity and child maintenance. They got stuck on the new inheritance law and asked for more information. Other outstanding points are civil code amendments on purchasing of non removable property and assets, consumer protection, sole proprietorship, bankruptcy and claims.

The five additional points coming to Parliament are the National Ordinance on Trust Companies, the Establishment of a Central Registration System for Child Abuse, the National Ordinance Rent, the National Ordinance Insurance and Annuity, the National Ordinance Married in the Community of Goods, several changes to the Book 2 of the Civil Code and the National Ordinance New Criminal Code.

MPs will also gather for a Central Committee meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the request of the National Alliance. The party wants Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor Cornelius de Weever to provide information about Doctor’s Cards, Social Aid and Labour. This meeting will also take place in the General Assembly Chamber and will be carried live on St. Maarten Cable TV Channel 20.
