St. Maarten – The first baby born at the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) for 2013 arrived shortly after the New Year began. Joel Eljiah Blake was born to Paulette and Dean Blake at 2:27am on January 1. He weighed 2770 grams with 47 cm in length.

Management and Staff at SMMC congratulate the proud new parents with the arrival of their baby boy.

Baby Joel was delivered by midwife Nicoline Van der Velden. Nurses Marilva Plet and Andrea Algernon assisted with the delivery. He was born by a normal and spontaneous delivery.

The baby received gift baskets from the hospital, Divico, Manriques and Caprilles and Penny’s Department Store. He also received a photo shoot from Kennedy’s Photo Studio.

The parents encourage the public to put their confidence in the care provided at the hospital. “I was confident and the care was exceptional,” Paulette said. They express their gratitude for the care at the hospital and gifts received. They also give thanks to God for the birth of their new baby boy.
