St. Maarten – The head of the Department of New Projects, Development & Planning Kurt Ruan announced on Sunday that Waterfront Road in Cole Bay will be closed from June 15. The closure is part of the Cole Bay Drainage and Infrastructure Project.

The closure begins at 9:00 a.m and covers the area from the  intersection of Welfare Road  to the intersection of Waterfront Road.  The total length of this second phase is approximately 100 meters. The closure is so the contractor, Windward Roads, can continue drainage works by removing road surface, excavating the site and constructing the main drain outlet towards the lagoon. The closure will apply to vehicles, but pedestrians will still be able to access the area.

“Please note that these physical works does not impede on the regular business hours of Cole bay Tire Center and any surrounding businesses. All businesses in the surrounding areas will be open and accessible for business as usual via a detour which will be in effect,” Ruan said.

“The Department of New Projects Development & Planning is asking all motorists to pay extra attention to the traffic sign and detour route for a smooth and safe transition as the works for Cole Bay Drainage and Infrastructure Project is in the execution phase. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we are moving forward in order to have the works completed before the start of the “tourist season” known to all as the “high season,” Ruan added.
