GREAT BAY- The St Maarten Soccer Association is currently preparing a selection of U-13 players that will represent the island in a tournament organized by the French Soccer Association that kicks off on Saturday

Twelve teams divided into pools will be competing in this tournament which will conclude in January. The St Maarten selection will fall in pool A with Junior Stars FC, Attackers and Flamingo.

According to Owen Nickie, President of the SMSA, the players were selected from their performances in the Midisle School Soccer competition. “They may not be in the best physical condition and they have been able to play together. But what we want to do is to give them the necessary exposure,” Nickey said.

The games will be played every other Saturday for the first round, however if the ground at the Raoul Illidge Complex can be prepared adequately, Nickey hopes to get a few home games played. The team Manager is Ian Benjamin the Coaches are Junior Gumbs, Levy Ford and Ian Pemberton.
